    The Opportunity

    We are seeking an Area Automation Manager (AAM) for the Central U.S. Area. The AAM is responsible for managing automation and placing Ortho instrumentation in labs. The AAM will also be accountable for leading and executing the sales process, displaying product expertise, and selling to executive level professionals. The AAM will utilize data from process flow and workload mapping, lab economics, and progressive investment strategies to win new VITROS Automation Solutions business and to retain current automation accounts. The AAM is also responsible for translating the company’s strategic imperatives into execution plans within their assigned geography and to inform the organization of trends in the market place. The AAM should be an influential leader of their corresponding sales team and work with the different commercial groups to drive sales execution. They should also demonstrate a good balance between results and team engagement.

    The Responsibilities

    • Point person for all automation needs in the assigned area, including both existing and prospective sites
    • Strategic business competency and sales management
    • Helps create, review, update, and implement automation bids, quotes, and RFPs
    • Acts as “local expert” on VITROS Automation Solutions through utilization of product, market, and workflow knowledge
    • Analyzes and interprets data and reports with outcomes to drive business needs requiring automation
    • Recognizes and informs the local team of marketing and industry trends
    • Influences and partners with both internal and external stakeholders to achieve business objectives
    • Identifies overarching customer business challenges to aid in constructing automation solutions
    • Leads sales process which is tailored and unique to each customer’s business challenges
    • Completes regular co-travel with sales team members to qualified automation prospects
    • Works in collaboration with marketing, sales, field service, technical support and other stakeholders to market solutions that meet customer needs while following company policy
    • Establishes relationships with key thought leaders and process improvement KOLs to expand the overall strategy of Ortho in Automation for the organization
    • Provides coaching and development, and acts as a leader and motivator
    • Highly involved in any design and implementation of automation in an account
    • Identifies opportunities to collaborate with other departments to enhance customer experience
    • Works with US Marketing in collateral, program, and strategy development as needed

    The Individual

    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required
    • Advanced degree is preferred but not required
    • Minimum of 5 years of Capital Equipment Sales in Laboratory Diagnostics with Automation experience is required
    • Knowledge of Process Flow and Lab Economics is required
    • Strong healthcare industry knowledge and understanding of the laboratory market is preferred
    • Ability to solve complex problems through innovative and breakthrough thinking
    • Excellent oral and written communication/presentation required
    • Time management skills, with ability to effectively prioritize activities and flexibility to change course as necessary to react to changing business/market conditions or business goals
    • Approximately 80% domestic travel is required
